Let’s Be Real here

Every single one of you reading this has an issue. Maybe you’re obsessed with buying the latest makeup from Sephora. Perhaps you just yelled at your child for the first time, and the guilt of those beady, teary eyes is haunting you. Or maybe you have a darker secret looming in the background, growling louder each day. You know the one; It has a shadow that invades your dreams, calls you out when you feel good about yourself, and it doesn’t care how low you feel. In fact, you’ve been holding onto it for a long time. So long that it hinders your ability to focus on your dreams and goals.

Take a breath. Pick up a pen. Write it out of your soul. (Mary Magdalene did it! She had a lot happen to her.)

Writing is not for everyone, sure. But it is proven to be therapeutic because of its ability to stop you in your tracks and think. Really think. Even if you don’t like writing, you should purchase a blank notebook and give it a try.

“Writing also creates a mind-body-spirit connection, she said. ‘When you use your hands to pen or type something directly from your brain, you are creating a powerful connection between your inner experience and your body’s movement out in the world.’” (Tartakovsky, 2018)

Personal encounters with the mighty pen

As I grew into a young woman, I experienced what Tartakovsky references in a much bigger way. Having dissociation, I was able to completely connect with my own thoughts. However, in writing fiction, I detached and entered whichever character’s mind I explored at the time. I became someone else, which was not healthy. Now, I utilize my writing skills to keep grounded. I write about my experiences and it gives me sight into the past and lifts those heavy emotions right out of me. Writing was an addiction, an ultimate escape from depression.

With a pen in my hand, I utilize words to help heal myself and make meaningful changes in my life. The written word is powerful, whether it be a letter to my past self, a poem, or a stream of words that are just as chaotic as the little girl inside of me. But it works. Writing is something everyone should try, no matter the grammatical errors or spelling mistakes. Expressing oneself is a key step to dealing with the past, present, and planning out the future.

Once you have something written, you can keep it, share it, burn it – whatever makes sense to you.

Writing for success

With Valkyrie Visions Writing & Consulting, my promise is simple: To build a fierce presence in a world where female voices need to be louder. During my little successes in life, I have always begun by brainstorming. Try it out and I guarantee you will find something new you hadn’t thought out before. When you do, leave a reply and let me know if and how it went.

Stay fierce, Valkyrie!
